What is TENS?
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy is a clinically proven, easy-to-use, and safe alternative to pain-relieving medications. It is widely recommended by healthcare professionals globally. TENS can effectively address both sudden and persistent pain, with growing recognition in recent years for its role in managing long-term discomfort—especially chronic back pain. This therapy is suitable for most people and particularly valuable for those who cannot use traditional painkillers.
How Does It Work?
TENS delivers gentle yet firm electrical pulses through adhesive pads placed on the skin. These pulses stimulate nerves in a soothing and non-invasive way.
What Is Pain Control?
TENS works by gently activating sensory nerves, which helps block pain signals from reaching the brain. Users often describe the sensation as a pleasant tingling that distracts from discomfort. Pain relief typically lasts throughout the session, with some benefits continuing afterward. This approach is especially helpful for sharp or intense short-term pain.
How to Use a TENS Unit
- Connect the TENS device to the electrode pads.
- Plug the cord into the TENS socket.
- Apply the TENS pads at least one inch apart on clean, dry, undamaged skin in the target area.
- Press the power button (ensure the intensity dial is set to “LOW” initially).
- Gradually adjust the dial from low to high until you reach a comfortable yet effective level.

Note:
- When you first use your device, you’ll notice a clear plastic film covering the electrode pad. Simply peel off this protective layer and discard it before use.
- Avoid placing them on your head, face, neck, throat, or near your heart. Do not use the device if you have an implanted electronic medical device, on children, or on irritated or injured skin.
- Always attach the pads to your skin before turning on the device.
- Keep pads within 30cm (12 inches) of each other during us.
- Never stack pads on top of one another.
- Avoid bending the pads.
- Try not to touch the adhesive surface with your fingers.
- Clean pads under warm running water after every 30 uses, or whenever they appear dirty or lose their stickiness.
- Always return pads to their protective holder after use.
