Class II electrical appliances

A Class II or double insulated electrical appliance uses reinforced protective insulation in addition to basic insulation. Hence, it has been designed in such a way that it does not require a safety connection to electrical earth (ground).
The basic requirement is that no single failure can result in dangerous voltage becoming exposed so that it might cause an electric shock and that this is achieved without relying on an earthed metal casing. This is usually achieved at least in part by having at least two layers of insulating material between live parts and the user, or by using reinforced insulation.
In Europe, a double insulated appliance must be labelled Class II or double insulated or bear the double insulation symbol: ⧈ (a square inside another square). As such, the appliance should not be connected to an earth conductor because the high-impedance casing will cause only low-fault currents that are unable to trigger the fusible cut-out.[1]
Insulated AC/DC power supplies (such as cell-phone chargers) are typically designated as Class II, meaning that the DC output wires are isolated from the AC input. The designation “Class II” should not be confused with the designation “Class 2”, as the latter is unrelated to insulation (it originates from standard UL 1310, setting limits on maximum output voltage/current/power).
Why Infrared PEMF Mat belong to Class II
Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety – Part 2-17: Particular requirements for blankets, pads, clothing and similar flexible heating appliances.
IEC 60335-2-17:2012 deals with the safety of electric blankets, pads, clothing and other flexible appliances that heat the bed or human body, for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. This standard also applies to control units supplied with the appliance. Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used in beauty parlours or by persons in cold ambient temperatures, are within the scope of this standard. As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home.
1. Compliance with Safety Requirements for Flexible Heating Appliances
The standard covers flexible heating appliances (e.g., blankets, pads, clothing) designed for household or similar use with a rated voltage ≤ 250 V.
An infrared PEMF heat mat falls under this category as it is a flexible, body-heating device used for therapeutic or relaxation purposes.
2. Double Insulation or Reinforced Insulation (Class II Construction)
Class 2 appliances do not rely on earth grounding for protection against electric shock. Instead, they use:
Double insulation (basic + supplementary insulation)
Reinforced insulation (a single layer equivalent to double insulation)
Infrared PEMF heat mats typically have non-metallic enclosures and isolated low-voltage circuits, eliminating the need for a protective earth connection.
3. Protection Against Hazards
The standard addresses common hazards (electric shock, overheating, mechanical risks).
Since PEMF heat mats are often used in direct contact with the body, they must ensure:
Limited surface temperature (to prevent burns)
Electrical isolation (to prevent leakage currents)
Durability under flexing (since they are flexible appliances)
4. Intended Use & Additional Safety Measures
If the device is marketed for home use (e.g., pain relief, relaxation), it aligns with IEC 60335-2-17.
PEMF and infrared functions are considered supplementary features, but the primary classification is based on its heating function and electrical safety.
Conclusion
An infrared PEMF heat mat is a Class II device because:
✔ It is a flexible heating appliance under IEC 60335-2-17.
✔ It uses double/reinforced insulation instead of grounding.
✔ It operates at safe voltages with protective measures against electric shock and overheating.
Thus, it complies with the safety requirements for Class II appliances under the relevant IEC standard.
How do other companies shield EMF?

Many other companies’Infrared PEMF Mats as Class I appliances, relying on a grounded metal shield (3-prong plug) to divert harmful EMF. While effective, this introduces serious shock risks:
Dangers of Grounded (Class I) PEMF Mats
Shared Ground Leakage – If another Class I appliance in the building leaks current, the ground wire can electrify the mat even when turned off, shocking the user.
Lightning Strikes – Lightning entering the building’s ground can travel through the mat’s ground wire, electrifying it.
High-Frequency Interference – Appliances like microwaves or induction cookers can overload the ground wire, sending excess current back into the mat.
Faulty Ground Wiring – If the building’s ground fails, nearby grounded appliances (e.g., computers) can electrify the mat or increase harmful EMF exposure.
Why Class II (Ungrounded) Is Safer?
No Ground Dependency – Class II mats use double/reinforced insulation, eliminating shock risks from ground faults.
Direct Skin Contact Safety – Complies with IEC 60335-2-17, ensuring protection without grounding.
No Backflow Currents – Immune to interference from other appliances or lightning.
Class II design is safer and more reliable—avoid grounded PEMF mats to prevent shock hazards.
Salute Master’s technology for shielding EMF

Salute Master strictly adheres to Class II electrical appliance standards, ensuring complete user safety. Our Infrared PEMF Mat integrates an intelligent EMF shielding system, activated with a simple 3-second button hold. Here’s how it works:
Step-by-Step EMF Shielding Process
1.User Presses & Holds Power Button (3 Seconds)
The system initiates voltage sampling via the EMF detection circuit.
2.1st Second: Stabilization Delay
A 1-second delay ensures accurate and stable voltage readings.
3.2nd Second: Rapid Sampling (4x in 0.8s)
The micro-controller samples EMF levels every 200 milliseconds (4 total samples).
Calculates the average value and issues a shielding command.
4.Third Second: Verification & Activation
If EMF shielding is successful (Positive result):
The mat powers on, ready for safe use.
If shielding is incomplete (Negative result):
The system repeats sampling → averaging → shielding until successful.
Simple for Users, Sophisticated for Safety Despite the advanced technology, operation is effortless:
✅ Just press & hold the power button for 3 seconds – the system handles the rest.
By combining Class II insulation with real-time EMF monitoring, Salute Master ensures zero shock risk and maximized safety without relying on hazardous grounding.
Key Advantage: Unlike grounded (Class I) mats, Salute Master’s design eliminates risks from faulty wiring, lightning, or appliance interference, making it the safest choice for direct body contact.
